Carpet Care Tips

How often should we clean our carpets?

We suggest you clean your carpets at every 12-18 months. Cleaning your carpets regularly ensures your home is as clean as it can be. It is also a great way to control dust mites and reduce pet allergens. These nasty mites can create homes within carpet fibres which are not conducive to a healthy, clean home.  Clients who suffer from allergies also benefit from a better air quality once their carpets are hygienically clean.

Our method of cleaning is by ‘hot water extraction’ or steam cleaning this method injects a combination of hot water and eco cleaner into the carpet fibres and extracts. We believe this is the most effective cleaning method for standard carpets as the dirt is essentially loosened and extracted.

Aside from cleanliness, a regular clean is a great way to improve wear and tear and extend the life of your carpets. This is even more important in high traffic areas such as hallways, landings, dining and living rooms. You can also ensure any discolouration or staining is kept on top of regularly. A lot of households spend thousands on great quality carpets and with light coloured carpets particularly in fashion. It only makes sense to ensure you can keep your carpets looking as good as they should for as long as possible.

I’m moving house, should I get the carpets cleaned?

Renting a Property

It is now very common for tenants to have carpet cleaning clauses within their lease, as a result, Whites Carpet Cleaning undertake a lot of ‘End of Tenancy’ or ‘Pre Tenancy’ cleans on behalf of individual customers or on behalf of local Estate Agencies we work with around Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. If you would like your carpets to be clean before you move, check with the lettings agent if the property has had the carpets cleaned as part of the previous tenant’s checkout. Alternatively, you can arrange to get this done before you move in.

Buying a Property

If you have just bought a house, getting the carpets cleaned before you move in is a small investment to ensure that every aspect of the home is clean. This is especially true if the previous owners had pets. Aside from controlling possible pet allergens, it’s also a great way to get rid of excess pets hairs.

Letting a Property

As a landlord with a carpet cleaning clause within their rental agreement, we can provide condition reports after every clean. This ensures transparency between the landlord and tenant. Condition reports also offer peace of mind for tenants so they are not penalised for any stains or wear and tear to the property prior to their tenancy.

Carpet and Upholstery Care Tips

Hoover regularly, we recommend 2-3 times a week and  invest in a good quality vacuum cleaner.  The best vacuum cleaners have a HEPA filter. These are great for trapping allergens which trigger asthma and allergy symptoms. We only use vacuum cleaners by SEBO and so can highly recommend them. They’re also perfect for vacuuming cat or dog hair.

Invest in a great doormat to prevent soiling into the home and ensure you vacuum it on both sides or beat it outside regularly to remove dust.

Consider a stylish rug for high traffic areas, rugs are fashionable and very practical especially in areas that always seem to get dirty such as playrooms or hallways.

Consider stain protection in communal rooms such as living or dining rooms. We can stain protect any standard carpet once we have cleaned it, this is effective in allowing you time to mop up a spill that would have caused more damage had the carpet not been stain protected. It also creates a greater resistance to general soiling as the protector sits on the fibres of the carpet.

Regularly vacuum your upholstery including the cushions and base. Upholstery fibres can be quite delicate and so always need cleaning earlier rather than later, you will get a better clean if your upholstery is lightly soiled rather than when it is heavily soiled.

Try not to position your upholstery in direct sunlight. It may be difficult arranging furniture to suit a room however it’s important to prevent discolouration over time. Also note that discolouration can happen to any fabric material, or leather .
